Each year since I started working for the paper, I have tried to get at least a handful of images of the annual Blair Fourth of July fireworks. Midwest Fireworks located in Blair takes great pride in putting on this outstanding show.
Making firework images is painting or playing with light – no two are ever the same. There are lots of “how to’s” and recipes for making firework images. The most important piece of equipment in addition to your camera is a good solid tripod. While some like to use a telephoto lens, I use a wide angle to include silhouettes and reflections from the landscape and spectators. I use the bulb setting at aperture f-11and ISO 100 to 200. I vary the length of exposure depending on the amount light.
